I have a problem that I have been agonizing over for the past 6 or so months. I have the ability to spend apx $7-8k on a new watch and I still don't know what to buy. I'd like to start building a legit watch collection. Right now I have a couple nice watches (Breitling Aerospace, Sea3 RGM, and some others) and one really nice watch (Blancpain Fifty Fathoms w/BP Bracelet) that I consider my grail. Damn I love that thing! I wear it nearly every day.
Now since I have the very traditional and conservative BP 50F I'm in the mood to get something a little more wild. Now, I thought about going down the Zenith El Primero route. I figured that could be a perfect compliment for the BP 50 Fathoms, as they both represent the modern version of watch milestones (first auto chronograph and first, sorry Rolex, modern diver). I might get one anyhow, but they don't really excite me. I do like the Striking 10th though...
So now to the watches I'm debating over. I would like something that is pretty uncommon, modern, and built by a company that could make some great stuff going forward. I've, sort of, narrowed it down to two watches (trying to figure out how to do a poll).
Hublot Big Bang:
-Pros: I love the look, company, feel, and rarely see them in the wild. I'm a fan of the company.
-Cons: I am worried that the company has over extended itself and values (on the resale market) might continue to fall. I hate that it doesn't have standard straps as I have several I enjoy alternating through my watches.
Romain Jerome Moon:
-Pros: I am a huge moon/Apollo 11 nut and love the history behind that. I NEVER see these in the wild. The company is making some pretty wild watches (that I'll never afford) and it would be neat to be a member of the community. It has standard straps and I'd be able to use several I own.
-Cons: While I love the look of the watches, I don't like them as much as the BB. While I see good things coming out of the company this is the riskier bet (no doubt) as this company has a much bigger potential to die off in the near future.
Arg. I have about 200 watches that I keep bookmarking. I just don't know what to jump on. I really want something original with a great story behind it.
