  1. 1905 - Hans Wilsdorf There is a close relationship between the history of Rolex and its farsighted and innovative founder Hans Wilsdorf. In 1905, when he was 24 years old, he set up a company specialized in horologe. He even conceived that watch would be worn on the wrist. Although the precision of watch was not high at that time, Hans Wilsdorf was able to foresee that wristwatch can not only show its elegance, and it also can be accurate and reliable. In order to convince public to believe the his innovative watch was accurate, he specially equipped the watch with small, precise movement produced by a watch company of Biel. Hans Wilsdorf 1908 - five artful letters Hans Wilsdorf wanted to get a concise and readable name for the watch, and it was easy to remember for any language, moreover, it was sightly on the movement and dial. He said: "I had tried all combinations of letters and got hundreds of names finally, but none of them could make me feel satisfied. One morning, when I sat on the upper desk of stagecoach by way of Cheapside in London, I seemed to have heard the voice of elfin, it whispered a word in my ear:Rolex". Stagecoach 1910 - the pursuit of timing accuracy Although Rolex concentrated on improving the quality of movement initially, it explored actively in the precision of chronometer and got success eventually. In 1910, Rolex became the first watch that obtained the Swiss chronometer certificate issued by Beil's official watch ranking center. Swiss chronometer certificate 1914 Four years later, that was 1914, the British Kew Observatory awarded the "A" certificate to Rolex. 3. Speedmaster and Seamaster are knowned as two of the most historial and the most popular watches of Omega. Modern people's deepest impression of Seamaster is the role that smart and brave James Pound climbed a mountain of swords or plunged into a sea of flames and saved the world crisis riskily in the company of it during the series of 007 movies. Omega Seamaster 300 replaced Submariner of Rolex and became agent James Bond's watch in the 007 movie named "Golden Eye" in 1995. The great competition between Omega Seamater and Rolex Submariner many years ago is still an attractive topic so far. Besides, Speedmaster learnt the appearance and elements from Seamaster in the early stage of development, even the case back of the original watch was engraved with Seamaster pattern. Therefore, it is reasonable that Seamaster was called primogenitor of Omega sports watch. Seamaster James Bond Limited Edition Since the advent of wristwatch hundred years ago, water, dust, magnetism and shock are four enemies of watch. In the 1920s and 1930s, watch manufactures began to study the measures against these external forces intensively to increase the watch's durability and endurance. Although before the 1920s, there were a few watchmakers, such as Francis Baumgartner, Paul Perregaux and Georges Peret, they could produce the high quality case that was well sealed, and thus it had good waterproof performance, then Omega and Longines adopted this case one after another. However, Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Rolex, was the first one who understood the potential of waterproof watches thoroughly, he made further devotion and indeed launched waterproof watches to the public, and he won the popular acclaim. At present, the vast majority of watches experts have recognized the fact that Rolex and Omega are pioneers and promoters in studying waterproof performance of watches. Seamaster Professional Ref.2254.50 Rolex continually improved the precision of the case, the adaptation of crystal face and crown system. In 1927, Mercedes Gleitzes swam across the English Channel wearing the Oyster watch of Rolex, and it took her 15 hours and 15 minutes, and Rolex became famous overnight by the reports from media and the advertisements. Durability, accuracy, water resistance, with incomparable athletic breath and the symbol of courage made the image of Rolex leave deep impression in people's mind. Marine was launched by Omega in 1932, and it was worn by the adventurer Charles William Beebe who was diving up to 10 meters under the water and setting the record at that time. Vintage Seamaster The first waterproof watch that named Seamaster was launched in 1948, and that was Seamaster 30, which was waterproof to 30 meters. Seriously speaking, in terms of today's standard, Rolex Oyster that was worn to swim across the English Channel can not be called real diver'watch absolutely. Actually, Omega Marine and Seamaster 30 were just added the waterpoof design on the basis of dress watch DeVille(some watches were even called Seamaster DeVille, which is similar to today's Seamaster Aqua Terra [Railmaster]). Seamaster DeVille Seamaster 30 So far, most horological people have recognized the fact that diving watches came into ordinary people's real life should be started from 1954 when Rolex launched its revolutionary Submariner Ref. 6204. In 1956, Rolex launched Ref. 6538 that is now known as James Bond Submariner with waterproofness of 200 meters(660 feet). During the postwar years, sports and adventure had prevailed in civil society, with the addition of the far-reaching promotion from media, the popularity of diving and sports watch had became unstoppable. In 1971, Rolex invented Sea-Dweller that possessed helium escape valve and waterproof to 2000 feet (600 meters). At the beginning of next year, M. Patrice Chemin and M. Robert Gauret worn this watch under the environment of helium and oxygen mixture and dived into the water of 2000 feet (600 meters) depth, furthermore, they continuously did that for 18 days and set the official world records. Seamaster 300 CK14755 The time when Omega Seamaster launched its real diver'watch was later than Rolex, Seamaster 300(waterproof only to 200 meters) was launched in 1957. The first generation of Seamaster 300 was CK 2913 that was equipped with Caliber 501 self-winding movement, and its hands were arrow-shaped. In 1960, Seamaster 300 was restyled and Omega launched CK 14755 that was equipped with Caliber 501 automatic movement. Seamaster Ref.166.024 was launched in 1964, and it had date display, Broad Sword hands and Caliber 563 or Caliber 565 automatic movement. Omega launched Seamaster 600 and Seamaster 1000 in 1970 and 1971 successively, and they possessed waterproof to 600 meters and 1000 meters respectively after it launched Seamaster 300(waterproof performance was only 200 meters) in 1957 and got great response. Leave the argument and confusion about who is the No.1 in history alone, we can fairly say that it was the efforts and innovation of these watch companies that created the vast world for the diver's watches and other sports watches jointly. Seamaster 300 Royal Navy Circa 1969 Seamaster was restyled greatly in 1988, and Seamaster Professional came officially. Its case was firm and sporty that was similar to current watch's appearance. Interestingly, the hands of Seamaster Professional 200M were similar to Mercedes-like of Submariner firstly. In addition to Seamaster Professional that had sporty appearance and design, Omega also launched Seamaster 120, and its appearance retained classical dress watch style of Seamaster 300. In 1993, it was restyled again and launched the third generation of Seamaster Professional that possessed the current style and appearance. In the meanwhile, it was worn by intelligence agent 007 that played by Pierce Brosnan in the movie Golden Eye in 1995, so it was nicknamed Seamaster James Bond. Seamaster Professional 300M In addition, of course we are going to talk about another reason why Seamaster and Submariner could set trend for diver'watch and made it be rooted in the people's hearts deeply and became popular watch: the film and media. In 1956, the Submariner Ref. 6538 and its follow-up watches launched by Rolex were widely popular because they appeared on the screen worn by intelligence agent 007, and were even nicknamed James Bond Submariner. Omega Seamaster 300 replaced Submariner of Rolex and became agent James Bond's watch since the 007 movie named "Golden Eye" in 1995, and this mode of cooperation also continued to the later "Tomorrow Never Dies"(1997) and "the World"(1999) as well as "Die Another Day". In the 007 series, the Omega Seamaster had portrayed as life-saving magic that rescued him from desperation, even it had been given weapons capabilities that could cut steel plate with laser performance, or have detonated device, or could pull the cable wire to hang on a helicopter for escaping and so on, and these performances deepened the impression of doughty performance of diver's watch in the masses's mind. Whatever the Submariner of Rolex or the Seamaster of Omega, smart and brave James Pound climbed a mountain of swords or plunged into a sea of flames in the company of it during the series of 007 movies, the diver's watch always could be considered the symbol of having the courage to take adventure. Although part of the reason that Submariner and Seamaster could become James Bond's secret weapon was commercial operation and publicity, its excellence in its professional diver's watch field is recognized as quite an achievement that complement with the fictional smart character in the film. Seamaster appeared in Die Another Day Seamaster GMT In additon to quartz watch, Omega Seamaster also launched Seamaster 120M, Seamaster Professional Diver(300M), Seamaster Professional GMT and Seamaster Professional Chronograph. Seamaster 120M was equipped with Caliber 1120 self-winding movement(it was modified from ETA 2892-A2); Seamaster Professional GMT was equipped with Caliber 1128(it also was modified from ETA 2892-A2) and launched in 1998; while Seamaster Professional Chronograph was equipped with Caliber 1164 (it was modified from Valjoux 7750). As for the women's watch, except for Seamaster Ladies Pro Auto that was equipped with self-winding movement, other watches were equipped with quartz movement. The men's watch Seamaster Professional Diver 300M was available in three sizes: small, medium and large, furthermore, its hands had two types, one was skeleton hand and another was GMT Broad Sword hand, both of them were launched in 1993. Seamaster Professional Chronograph Seamaster vs Submariner Whether from the perspective of historical development or the market positioning and strategy, Seamaster is alwasys mentioned in the same breath with Submariner. Of course, the comparison between Seamaster and Submarinar does not equal to completely equivalent, after all the prices of these two watches differ more than double. Some people may jokingly called Seamaster as Poor Man's Submariner, but many fans of Seamaster would not agree with this metapher, because Seamaster has its own historical origin and developing process, moreover, its technological design and aesthetic concepts have unique attraction. Fans of Seamaster always praise it that it is hard but it accords with ergonomic and possesses graceful overall design. The bracelet and original rubber strap are comfortable to wear and well received. Caliber 1120 self-winding movement of Seamaster was modified from ETA 2892-A2, its quality may be not as good as Rolex home-made movement of Submariner, but it was COSC, and its day error is within -4/+6 seconds, so in terms of price, it is very reasonable. Seamaster Professional 2254.50 Every coin has two sides, it is a matter of course that Seamaster has its shortcomings. The dial of Seamaster could be more exquisite, such as the luminescent hour markers and the print could be better, but its bigger luminescent hands and hour markers are obviously more convenient for people to know time in the darkness than Submariner. Futhermore, the rotatable chronograph bezel of Seamaster also has the shortcoming that it is too tight or too loose so that it is difficult for rotating, on the contrary, it seldom happens unmeant shifting. Seamaster Professional 2254.50 The case and bracelet of Seamaster adopted 316L stainless steel. Although it is advanced stainless steel, it still can be scratched easily when compared with 904 stainless steel which Submariner adopted. Therefore, if both of them are used in the same way, Seamaster would be more scratched and it looks timeworn. In addition, compared with Rolex trip-lock(or twin-lock) crown, the degree of soundness and waterproof design of Seamaster are poorer, if the crown is not locked well, it may be easier got wet carelessly. Let's leave the comparison between Seamaster and Submarinar alone, we can fairly say that Omega always positions Seamaster as extremely distinctive watch, and Omega did it, at least all the Seamaster fans consider it sincerely. Seamaster America's Cup vs Seamaster GMT The introduction of Seamaster special edition Seamaster Jacques Mayol Because Seamaster Jacques Mayol is specially produced for the Japanese market, most watch fans might not be familiar with it. It can be said that Jacques Mayol is the most famous contemporary free diver. He was born in Shanghai in 1927, and he spent his first 13 years in the region of Asia. Jacques Mayol loves Japan, and he learnt to dive during his vacation in Japan and then he was interested in diving. In fact, he spent most of his life in Japan afterwards, so that he was very famous there. Jacques Mayol's father loves diving, too, and he died in a diving accident. Jacques Mayol did not give up his love of diving and ocean for his father's death, and he won several championships of free diving in Europe when he was young. The so-called Free Diving refers to an extreme sport that divers dive into water as much as possible without carrying oxygen cylinder, and divers would compete for diving into the deepest and staying for longest time. Actually free diving has a long history, because people dived into the bottom of the sea to look for the food and treasure as early in as early as the ancient times. Now there are many international free diving organizations like AIDA (Association Internationale pour le Developpement de l'Apnee). Jacques Mayol Other extreme sports like rock climbing, Bungy are obviously not as challenging and dangerous as free diving. During diving, diver is under great pressure, and the pressure is more than 16.5 kilograms per square cm, it can make people's eardrum be broken, and chest be collapsed which results in death. The most common is that diver stays at deep place for a long time, when he dives upwards, his oxygen content of blood decreases greatly so that results in coma. However, such experience that challenges the limit and life would bring unique spiritual experience that is totally different from other sports for divers. Italy free diving experts Umberto Pelizzari who is as well as a good friend of Jacques Mayol had ever said that: "You are in another world, where there is no gravitational force, no color, no noise...one does not descend in apnea to look around but to look into oneself. It is a long jump into the soul." There is a Constant Weight in Free Diving, it means that the freediver descends and ascends using his fins/monofin and/or with the use of his arms without pulling on the rope or changing his ballast. The opposite of Constant Weight is no limit competition, which means the freediver descends with the help of a ballast weight and ascends via a method of his choice. The earlist scoring record of No Limit began in 1919, and Raimondo Bucher set world record of 30 meters at that time. In 1953, the Italian Alberto Novelli and Ennio Falco set world record of 43 meters, and then Enzo Maiorca set world record of 54 meters in 1965. Thereafter, just as described in the film LeGrandBleu, Mayol and Enzo Maiorca competed to break the record interactively. Until 1970 Mayol set the record of 76 meters, and he achieved an amazing achievement of 100 meters unlimited diving in 1976. Seamaster Jacques Mayol 2001 In 1983, Mayol set the tenth world record of 105 meters at the age of 56, and then he announced his retirement. Unfortunately, after many years of retirment, Jacques Mayol, the first great diver who could hold his breath and dive into 100 meters, hanged himself in his apartment without any warning on 22 December, 2000. He was 74 years old. Perhaps nobody will know the reaon why he ended his life, and it will become enigmatic legend in the world. In any case, the achievements and spirit of Jacques Mayol who called himself as Homo Delphinus - The Dolphin Within Man would occupy an important position in the hearts of divers and adventurers. Jacques Mayol proved a word that he had ever said by his action: "Anybody who can rediscover his physical potential can be able to dive more than 100 meters." Although Jacques Mayol had passed away, his spirit still encourages a lot of divers to try their best to challenge their potential and set the record that surpasses limit. Seamaster Jacques Mayol 1996 Jacques Mayol and Omega Seamaster Omega Seamaster 1981 Seamaster was firstly launched in 1948, and it was designed for the activities of exploring ocean. Up to now, Seamaster has become the most important part in Omega watch-making history. Seamaster was named after the number of its waterproof since it was launched primitively. For example, Seamaster 300 of 1957 was waterproof to 300 meters, and Seamaster 600 of 1970 was waterproof further to 600 meters. Over the years, many international famous diving experts like Alain Julien, French skin diving expert Roland Specker and Jacques Mayol were wearing Seamaster during their diving. Seamaster 120 In 1981, Jacques Mayol worn Seamaster 120 when he set the world record of 101 meters in free diving again. Later, Omega successively launched several Seamaster Jacques Mayol special edition watches, but some of them were just launched in Japanese market. Seamaster Jacques Mayol 1999 Seamaster Apnea Omega lauched Seamaster Apnea in 2003, and it was the newest watch which Omega paid homage to Jacques Mayol. According to Jacques Mayol's diving experience and requirement, Omega Seamaster Apnea was specially designed for divers. The design inspiration of Seamaster Apnea was derived from America's Cup RACING Chronograph. The design of seven circular apertures special apnea timing function on the dial replaced hands to let the divers know the time quickly and clearly in the dark ocean. So long as the start/stop button at 2 o'clock position is pressed, seven circular apertures on the dial will become red gradually from the left to the right with the time going by. After the first round of seven-minute completed(all the apertures are red), and from the 8th minute, the color will successively fade to the background color of the dial (black or silver), allowing in total 14 minutes to be timed. Furthermore, the first 14-minute markers on the bezel are marked in red, which means that by rotating the bezel to make the luminous aperture aim at the minute hand, free divers can know the total elapsed diving time quickly. Seamaster Apnea Omega Seamaster Apnea possessed firm and durable features and unique chronograph performance, it was made of stainless steel and equipped with unidirectional rotating bezel, and its bezel has 60-minute scales for timekeeping in diving or other activities. Dial is available in black or silver with luminous hour markers and hands. The crystal is scratch resistant sapphire, which is anti-reflective, screwed down crown and caseback, 300 metres waterproof. Its case back was carved with Jacques Mayol and pattern of The Dolphin Within Man. Omega Seamaster Apnea was equipped with 3601 self-winding movement whose power reserve is up to 40 hours, and the case diameter was 39.3 mm. It could be equipped with stainless steel bracelet or rubber strap. Seamster America's Cup 2000 Since 1932, Omega served as appointed timer in the Olympics for its excellent timing performance and breakthrough technology invention, and it also served as appointed chronograph in the America's cup in 2000 and 2003 respectively. CEO of Omega Stephen Urqhart had ever proudly said that:"America's Cup is one of the most honorable and most centuried competition in the world. We can communicate with the most outstanding person here. America's Cup conforms to Omega's purpose of pursuing excellence and perfection. In the meanwhile, since 1932, Omega acted as appointed chronograph in the Olympics for 22 times, and it invented electronic counter for track and field events and electronic touch pad for swimming competition. In 1996, with the help of the former promotion ambassador and captain of the champions team of New Zealand Peter Blake, Omega come in contact with America's Cup. Omega developed Seamaster in the 50s, and it won marine sports awards for many times for its excellent waterproof. In this America's Cup, we specially designed brand new Seamaster America's Cup for Team New Zealand and Omega promotion ambassador Dean Barker. We wish they could win in the championship fight." Seamaster America's Cup 2000 Limited Edition In 2003 America's Cup, Omega invited its star ambassador team to cheer for the event, including world's top supermodel Cindy Crawford, the new Omega promotion ambassador and famous star Richie Jen, Singapore famous TV actors Ivy Lee and Xie wan yu, etc. Unfortunately, Team New Zealand who worn Omega Seamaster America's Cup lost the game eventually, and of course that all citizens of New Zealand were disappointed about it, moreover, Audemars Piguet of Team Alinghi which was the sponsored rival of Omega grabbed all the limelight in the event. Although Team New Zealand and Omega lost, competition result could not stand for everything, Seamster America's Cup still deserves detailed introduction. Seamaster America's Cup Chronograph In order to celebrate the honor that it served as official timer in 2000 America's cup, Omega launched Seamaster America's Cup Limited Edition in 1999. The style of 2003 Omega Seamaster America's Cup Chronograph was with reference to Seamaster Chronograph and it also inherited consistent fine tradition. Since Seamaster was launched in 1993, it became the first watch that was equipped with chronograph buttons in the world, and it could be operated in the water of 300 meters; it passed the quality certification in the same year. At that time, French diver Roland Specker dived into Lake Neuchtel of 80 meters without the help of the instruments and then returned, and it took him 2 minutes, 33 seconds. In addition, Seamaster America's Cup Chronograph gained praise from German famous business magazine Armbanduhren International, and in order to show respect, Armbanduhren International presented Uhr des Jahres 1994 to Seamaster America's Cup Chronograph. Seamaster America's Cup Chronograph In order to highlight professional role in America's Cup, Omega redesigned the original Seamaster Chronograph, and equipped it with Caliber 3303 movement with Column-wheel(it was also applied to Speedmaster Broad Arrow). The tough and durable performance of Seamaster America's Cup Chronograph stands for persevering and persistent character of sailing athletes, navigators and explorers, and it also represents originality and internationally renowned fine tradition. Seamaster America's Cup RACING Chronograph Seamaster America's Cup RACING Chronograph The captain of Team New Zealand Dean Barker provided his personal opinions to Omega's design department in Bienne headquarters of Switzerland for the production of a watch that was specially designed for Team New Zealand to defend the championship in the America's Cup. After joint discussion and study, the result was Seamaster America's Cup RACING Chronograph. This watch was firm and durable, the diameter was 44 mm that was larger than ordinary watches, so that it could be added a brand-new function - Regatta start timer function. For captain, the most important thing is to compute the moment when sailing boat cross the finish line. It is optimal that sailing boat cross the starting point as soon as the firing of starter pistol, because it would be punished correspondingly if sailing boat cross the starting point too early. Omega America's Cup Regatta start timer function was installed on the dial, 5 apertures were arranged in semicircle shape. When athletes heard the signal of before the beginning of the race, they must press the button to start the timer immediately. Every aperture of Regatta start timer stands for every minute, when the button is pressed, 5 apertures begin changing into blue from black; 5 minutes later, 5 apertures change into red from blue to count down 10 minutes before the official start of the race. Otherwise, the small chronograph dial at 9 o'clock position is equipped with black, blue and red for athletes to know time regularly, and center red chronograph hand indicator is used for counting down tens of seconds before the start of race. Seamaster America's Cup RACING Chronograph Seamaster America's Cup RACING Chronograph possessed the standard features of Seamaster, including accurate brand new Caliber 3602 automatic movement, unidirectional bezel, which has minute scales for recording diving time or dual time keeping, scratch resistant sapphire crystal, 300m water resistant. Seamaster America's Cup RACING Chronograph is available in style of black dial with stainless steel or titanium. The bezel of stainless steel watch was equipped with aluminum rim while the bezel of titanium edition was equipped with steel ring. Both of the two watches were equipped with extremely large luminous hour, minute and 1/4-second indexes, as well as skeleton luminescent hour markers. 12-hour chronograph counter was at 6 o'clock position while 30-minute chronograph counter was at 9 o'clock position. Besides, the big dial has printing "America's Cup", and the 12-hour chronograph subdial was printed "RACING" that demonstrated traditional features of Seamaster. Seamaster Aqua Terra Seamaster Aqua Terra 007 intelligence agent James Pound climbed a mountain of swords or plunged into a sea of flames in the company of Seamaster in movies, it served as best partner of James Pound, and lots of people also accomplished their difficult explorations in the company of Seamaster. The current sporty Seamster Professional had classical dress watch style in 1948 when it was just launched, it was greatly different from today's tough image. As the new launch of Omega, Seamaster Aqua Terra inherited classic design characteristics and excellent properties of the original Seamaster, and its elegance is different from toughness of other watches. It is the most elegance Seamaster that was specially customized for fashionable person. Aqua Terra adopted Caliber 2500 Co-Axial movement that Omega was most proud of, it could keep its chronograph accuracy for eight to ten years without maintenance. This is first time for Omega to apply Co-Axial movement to other series, it symbolized great progress of Seamaster. The transparent case back of Seamaster Aqua Terra could allow people to see the operation of movement clearly, and this is another characteristic of Seamaster Aqua Terra.
  4. have some spare money in hand, so planning to buy a watch to award my hard work, after a serious of comparision, now with only three watches enter into the final, Daytona, Submariner, Seamaster, which one you will recommend? I do love the look of Daytona, but submariber is somehow a must-have, timeless watch, Seamaster also has its strengthes, so what's your opinoin? which one i should opt for?
  5. Since the first rolex submariner debuted in 1953, first impression while mentioning about rolex is their iconic submariner that has never been surmounted during its fifty years of history. I believe not just me almost every watch fan are intrigued by submariner. Deep in my heart, no one particular watch ever found can take the place of sub that has caused such a great impact for the entire watch industry; no one diver watch ever found can reveal such beautiful charming like the sub does; no one particular diver watch ever found can attract the world’s attention just for a minor update or change. Each one submariner owner may have the feeling that it not just has powerful water resistance, accuracy, durability, and its outlook is timeless and everlasting, with great resale value that other watch brands can’t catch up with. Earliest Oyster water-resistant case was introduced in 1926, actually it was not the patent of rolex, but invented by two young German. While at the time when wristwatch was not prominent in horology, the two young German were willing to pay for the patent with a great amount of cash so to enjoy the profit brought by each sale of Oyster watch, we have to admit their older leader of rolex indeed have very insightful perspective. In 1927, Oyster case watch was published on The Times, the memorable female swimmer crossed English Channel with rolex watch attached had created a miracle showed the world how powerful reliable rolex water resistance was. Case diameter: 40mm Bezel: uni-direction with 60 indices (Cerachrom black ceramic bezel with platinum indices) Crown: triplock, adding a crown protection device – crown guard Water resistance: 300 meters Crystal: sapphire crystal, cyclop with anti-reflecting coating Dial: green dial/black dial Hands and marker: Chromalight luminescent material Bracelet: 904L stainless steel Type: Oyster bracelet Clasp: removable Rolex Glidelock Movement model: 3135 Date: instantaneous date Frequency: 4Hz (28800vph) Parachrom hairspring with Breguet overcoil COSC with 48 hours power reserve Submariner 6024, Produced between 1953-1956, cal.A260 movement, waterproof to 100 meters In 1953, rolex created the prototype of the historic classic sub: 6204. It already had the iconic appearance of today’s submariner have including the rotatable bezel and water-resistant case, but this wasn’t all rolex had improved, later added the already famous Mercedes hand in Bubble back time on 6200 in 1954, nothing but updated it into a slim version. So to speak, 6200 of the time was already very familiar with today’s submariner. From detailed, just only the differences on diameter measured 37mm and lack of shoulders. In 1955, 6536 emerged, on this sub, for the first time marked water resistance depth 100m on dial, which was truly an unbelievable water resistant number for divers watch at the time. Movement of this model also developed into the semi-open 1030 from the completely closed 260 in Bubble back times. 6200 first time applied with Mercedes hand, movement Cal.A296, waterproof 200m 5512 in 1959 was the real pioneer of modern submariner. Compared with previous models, rolex kept discovering problem in practice, so to improve the crown guard and use modern rolex classic COSC movement 1520. Later developments of sub have always adhered to the professional diver watches. As far as I’m concerned, due to the reason that divers and sporty watch were not the main products generalized at that time but slowly adjustment or exchange in the light of professional watch. So we can see 5513 to red rolex 1680 almost no updates or changes found basically. 5512, first time applied with crown guards, movement cal.1530(1570), waterproof 200m, COSC After 1980s, antique watches of rolex were crazily hyped by Italian and Japanese, from Bubble Back, Prince to later Daytona. Raise of Daytona brought a hot wave of sporty watches. 14060 launched in 1988 and later 16610 with date, both used newest 3xxx series movement and adopted never ever used sapphire crystal, which highly improved water resistance of sub, from early 200m to 300 meters, able to withstand higher water pressure and crueler external environment. By the way, I started liking rolex since this period. sub1680, movement cal.1575, waterproof 200m, COSC, first sub with date Let me be clear, though I’m in deeply love with rolex, I have to admit some entrenched weaknesses, like never updated steel spring buckle for decades, like not well connected bracelet always making some annoying noise, or like two impresses stressed out by long time use of the end links… all in all, we may inevitably feel regretful just for these tiny minor flaws. But this regret was finally compensated in 2008, a new gold sub was born, ceramic bezel improved the hand feeling, solid bracelet and solid end links and adjustable solid buckle, looks so elegant, attractive and impressive. But the price was way too high for me, gold version was not attainable for most of individuals and I’m one of these individuals… rolex green bezel, 16610LV After 57th birthday of submariner, rolex grandly release a totally new steel version: 116610LN Five improvements of new sub 1. Bezel material. Ceramic engraving and platinum filling makes the watch look more shinny and graceful. Shock-resistance and wear-resistance are stronger than early models. 2. Dial design. Hands and indices are used thicker design, let the watch more legible, adding a device to protect crown called crown guard, gasket wrapped on tube, under the iconic crown, highlighted three dots as a symbol of sporty watches, revised diameter to 39.5mm, adopted COSC cal.1570 movement. larger hands and indices 3. The appearance changes. Looks larger than previous models, arc of lug also changed with a thicker lug, better polishing and brushing 904Lsteel bracelet, rolex adjustable Glidelock links 4. The change of crown guard. New crown guard broadened and tougher, more solid and high class visually. Cerachrom black bezel, wider shoulders 5. Improvement in bracelet and clasp. Changed to solid end links, more sturdy and won’t cause impresses. Bracelet also changed to solid links and more comfortable in wear. beautiful thicker lugs, polished and brushed bracelet links
