Hi- This is greatgranddad's watch. 33233XX. Net says its a model 1883, grade 3, 11 jewel, lever stem set, Wm Ellery grade is noted. The movement looks like a model 1873... is there is such a horse...? Not a model 1883 movement.
I've only seen one other movement (number close to mine but slightly different design top plate wise) with the cresent moon and star.. just a logo or movement upgrade sign maybe?
Also, was wondering.. on the top plate one side it says AWWCo and WALTHAM on the other side. Is that just the name or was it upgraded to a WALTHAM GRADE.
THANKS !

I believe your second digit is actually an '8', which would make it an 1884 model.

The Waltham "Grey Book" shows serial run 3823001-4000 as a 14 size model 1884, A.W.W.Co. grade. In the "Setting" column, they show the star and crescent mark, but I don't know what exactly that means. I've read some speculation that these watches were special-made for the Crescent Watch Case Company; is your case also a Crescent?
